St. Scholastica Book Group

St. Andrew's Episcopal Church 1231 E Chapman Ave, Fullerton, California

Join us on Sunday, February 2, at around 12:30 p.m. in the Orange Room as usual. We will be discussing "Home By Another Way" by Barbara Brown Taylor. From The Anglican Theological Review: "Taylor is extraordinarily skillful at bringing the biblical message to life and linking it to human experience. She does not hover on the surface of either text or experience, but instead probes both deeply, bringing text into ever broader and deeper resonances with life and vice versa. She possesses an imaginative vision revealed in her attention to detail―she paints concrete biblical portraits and landscapes and then invites readers in. She makes the bible stories seem ‘real' in compelling ways. In effect, she tells us that the lives and struggles of these colorful characters from millennia ago are not all that different from our own."

Los Angeles Recorder Orchestra Tribute Concert

St. Andrew's Episcopal Church 1231 E Chapman Ave, Fullerton, California

Join us for the Los Angeles Recorder Orchestra tribute concert on Sunday, February 2, at 3 p.m. in the sanctuary. This concert was originally planned as LARO's 20th Anniversary Concert and as a tribute to LARO's co-founder, Lia Starer Levin. Thomas Axworthy, LARO’s co-founder and music director, selected the following pieces of music in her honor: - Handel’s "Zadok the Priest" - Glen Shannon’s "Birthday Variations" (for Lia Levin) - Rachmaninoff’s "Vocalise" - Bergeron’s "Flute Alors" - Premieres of two short pieces by Daniel Hay: "In Mary’s Arms" and "Agnus Dei." Tom conducted the first rehearsal of the session. However, feeling unwell, he asked his Concert Master, Ricardo Berón, to fill in for him during the next rehearsal. Tragically, Tom passed away unexpectedly just a few days later. In Memory of Thomas Axworthy December 1, 1948 - October 20, 2024   Ricardo Berón - Acting Music Director
