Have you noticed that when we say something is true people want to know how we know it is a fact? They want proof. Scholastically we must cite the writings and research of others to prove that we know what we are talking about. I have noticed that the press is fact-checking our politicians now, and that’s probably a good idea.
In the gospel this coming weekend others said the following about Jesus when he visited the synagogue in Capernaum. “For he taught them as one having authority,.” And immediately Jesus proceeded to heal someone with “unclean spirits” right in front of the congregation.
Jesus Christ is self-authenticating. He need not quote the work of others to bolster what he has to say. He was there in the beginning. He knows how things work, exactly how they work. When Jesus says something it’s a good idea to listen. See you Sunday.
